Year round lawn care benefits

Year round lawn care contracts are the key to building a successful business.  Wondering what the benefits of year round lawn care are for you as a professional lawn care business owner?  I always recommend having your customers on a year round schedule and here’s why:

  1. Year Round Lawn Care Guarrantees Monthly Income Year Round

A year round contract means that you will have income and work throughout the year.  Obviously, depending where you are geographically, the work won’t be of the same intensity the entire year.  Spring, Summer, and Fall will require much more work than the Winter. For example, I live in South Carolina so we do consistent mowing from about March – September,  leaf clean up October – December, and Pruning and basic striping of lawns January & February.  I do weekly or bi weekly mowing May -August and then back off to bi weekly or monthly October – February (depending on the contract). I work really hard Spring and Summer and then I work about half as much Fall and Winter.  In fact, January and February I work about a fourth as much.  For two months I can work a fourth of the hours but still bring in steady income.  So, how do you decide what to charge your customer? I estimate what the cost of the entire year would cost with the agreed upon services in each given month and then divide by twelve.  This is a great benefit (and selling point) for the customer.  No matter what, they pay the same amount monthly, and when winter comes, you can count on the same income.  Most customers don’t like to pay a lot half the year and a little the other times of the year.  They like paying the same each month to help them keep their monthly budget throughout the year.

2.   Year Round Lawn Care Guarantees Well Maintained Yards

Hate it when a customer waits until the grass is two feet tall to call you for the first cut in the Spring?  Me too.  Not only does it take twice as much time to get it looking great again, but its bad for the equipment.  And having a year round contract is a great way to avoid that.  This way you can keep on top of the growing season when it starts shooting up in the Spring.  Better for the grass, better for the customer, better for you.

3.Year Round Lawn Care Gives Good Advertising

When you are in charge of the schedule, you are guaranteeing that the yard will always look great and well maintained. How is this great advertising? When a neighbors yard is always looking great, others start to notice.  Word of mouth advertising is advertising that you don’t have to pay for.  Win-win.  About half of my year round contract customers are from neighbors who came over or called me because they liked the way their neighbors yard looked.

How To Mow Stripes In Your Lawn

How To Mow Stripes In Your Lawn

Have you ever wondered how to mow stripes in your lawn to make it look professional?  Well, it is not as hard as you think.  As a lawn care professional myself, I recommend that you mow stripes in lawns especially if you mowing lawns for business.  When you mow stripes in lawns it will set you apart from many other lawn and landscape companies.  I pick up new customers all the time who used other companies who did not mow stripes and did terrible jobs.  When you make a lawn look professional, then it will stand out in a neighborhood and the neighbors will begin to notice.  I have people walk over to places I mow all the time and ask me to give them a bid because they like the way I make their neighbors lawn look.  I try and mow stripes in all the lawns I cut.

Another great benefit of when you mow stripes in a lawn is it tends to hide a lot mistakes, bad spots, and areas with infiltrated weeds.  Think about it, if there is a yard with a bunch of weeds, then cutting it with stripes still makes it look good and professional and will lay the weeds down in a yard as you cut and will make it look better than if you don’t mow stripes.  It also will help the overall look of the yard to just look professional.
